Who we are
Truthscape (truthscape.org) is a theology and discernment website operated by Steve Crow. Questions about this policy may be directed via our Contact page.

What we collect and why

Account registration. If you create an account, we collect your username, email address, and the display name you choose. Your display name is shown publicly on any comments or activity, and Truthscape asks you to register with your real first and last name for public discussion. Registration data is used to manage your account and send account-related notices.

Contact form. When you use the Contact form we collect your name, email address, subject, and message, used solely to respond to you.

“Test the Argument” submissions. We collect your name, email address, church or affiliation, the argument submitted, and how you wish to be credited. This is used to evaluate and respond to your submission. If it is published, only your credit name and the argument are made public; your email address is never published.

Comments. If you leave a comment, WordPress stores the comment, your name, email address, and IP address, and the Akismet anti-spam service (Automattic) processes it to detect spam. See Automattic’s privacy policy for details.

Assessments (anonymous research). Our self-assessment tools can optionally record your answers for research into how believers form doctrine. This is opt-in (a consent checkbox) and anonymous: we store the pattern of your answers and result only, with no name, email address, IP address, or time of day. If you do not check the box, nothing is recorded. Assessment results shown to you, and any PDF you download, are generated in your browser.

Third-party services that process data

  • Hosting — the site is hosted on managed WordPress servers (Namecheap/EasyWP), which process server logs including IP addresses.
  • Email — outbound email (notifications and replies) is sent through our email provider via an SMTP service. Notification emails may include open-tracking so we can tell whether a message was delivered and read. Your email address is not used for marketing and is not shared with any marketing service.
  • Spam protection — Akismet (Automattic) processes comment metadata to filter spam.
  • Bot protection — automated forms and login are protected by Google reCAPTCHA and Cloudflare Turnstile, which distinguish real visitors from bots. These may set a cookie or analyze interaction data for that purpose. Google reCAPTCHA use is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms; Cloudflare Turnstile is designed to work without tracking visitors across sites.
  • Security — our security plugin logs IP addresses and login activity to detect and block attacks.
  • Scripture text — when you choose to view the ESV, NASB, or NIV in an assessment, the passage is fetched on our server from the Bible text providers (Crossway’s ESV API and API.Bible). For NASB/NIV, API.Bible’s fair-use view-counter (FUMS) runs in your browser to report a view, as their license requires. We do not send them your identity.

We do not sell or rent your personal data, and we do not use advertising or general web-analytics tracking. The services above process data only to run the site’s core functions (delivery, security, spam defense, and Scripture display).

Cookies
The site sets cookies for WordPress login sessions. Google reCAPTCHA may set its own cookies for bot detection. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.

Data retention
Contact and submission form entries are kept for up to 24 months. Email delivery logs are kept for up to 90 days. Security logs are kept for up to 60 days. Anonymous assessment records contain no personal data and may be retained indefinitely for research. Account data is kept until you ask us to delete it.

Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time via our Contact page. We will honor such requests within a reasonable time.

Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated periodically. The date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
