Women in the Apostolic Writings

A Corpus Dataset and Decision Framework
Traced by Schreiner’s propositional method

Summary

This tool gathers what the apostolic writings say about women in the life of the church and lays the evidence out for inspection. It catalogs thirty-five named or identified women and groups in New Testament church life and mission, and sixteen prescriptive texts, with Greek verbs and parsings. It runs thirteen contested words against the MACULA Greek text, records the text-critical problems and the earliest reception, and sets out nineteen contested judgments, each with the evidence on both sides and what would settle it.

The Applying it tab sets out four live positions, each in its strongest form and with what it must pay for, and a matrix of fourteen practices showing where those positions agree and where they differ. That tab is kept separate from the exegesis and issues no overall verdict; where one specific comparison goes one way, the tool says so.

This is the review edition of October 27, 2026. It brings the August 16 dataset up to date with the research through August 26, 2026. Changed records are marked, and the What changed tab lists each change with its source.

How to use the tool. Choose a tab across the top. Most tables have a search box and filters. Figures that rest on secondary reporting rather than a count run against the Greek text are flagged where they appear.

The tool is embedded below and can also be opened in its own tab.
